Out and about

Whitby is the perfect location for exploring and enjoying the North York Moors National ParkWhitby was a 17th Century whaling station, famous for its connection to Captain Cook and his ship the Endeavour. Many of the original buildings date back to that time and there are lots of independently owned shops and restaurants preparing local produce for you to enjoy. The Abbey itself is a short walk down the lane from Summerfield Farm and you can see the town from the top of the 199 steps which lead into the oldest part of the town.

The North York Moors National Park is spectacular with its rolling hills and valleys covered in heather and sheep! There are lots of places to visit including the North Yorkshire Moors Railway which runs from Pickering to Whitby with many picturesque stops in between. Robin Hood's Bay an old smuggling village clinging to the cliffs is (just a 3 miles South of Summerfield), The Ryedale area close by has the lovely villages of Thornton Le Dale, Hutton le HoleRosedale and the town of Helmsley to explore. If you are feeling energetic explore Dalby The Great Yorkshire Forest by mountain bike, hiking, horsedrawn carriage or take to the tree tops at GO APE.

Summerfield Farm offers the ideal base and along with our local knowledge we can help make your stay a memorable one!
Our Dark Skies from Autumn through to Spring make for ideal star gazing, and our wildlife and birdlife on the farm is variable and there is always a suprise in store for the patient and quiet observer.

We are currently asking our past guests to send in their favourite photographs of their stay with us for publication in the guest images section of our website so if you have one you would like to share, please email it to us at the address below.  We look forward to seeing them.

“Just wanted to say a massive thank you for a wonderful stay at Summerfield Holiday Cottages, we really enjoyed ourselves. A lovely warm welcome, and what a really lovely place, everything you could possibly need, and a great location. Thanks for your advise on the local beach, the kids really enjoyed playing in the rock pools and searching for fossils (we did find some!). Whitby is so lovely, the Magpie Cafe has the best fish and chips too, yummy scrummy! Wonderful holiday, thank you.”
